Graphic designers work with typography, graphics and images in a variety of formats ranging from clothing, magazines, web sites, advertising through to branding and packaging. Nearly every business you can think of has some need for a graphic designer. This program will help you develop a well-rounded knowledge about design, marketing, publishing and advertising fully preparing you to pursue a career in any of these fast-paced industries.

In your one year of study you will focus on preparing creative work, both hand rendered and computer generated, suitable for print. You'll learn about all aspects of design including digital graphics, print, pre-press, packaging, drawing, technical and commercial illustration, typography and multimedia creation.

You will also focus on professional web development. You'll use industry standard software including a variety of CMS software for building Content Management System websites and the Adobe Creative Suite software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign  & Dreamweaver.

You'll also learn the professional skills you need to work successfully in any business environment including interpreting briefs, marketing strategies and project management.

You'll also benefit from close industry contact through site visits to professional design studios and guest specialists in class.

The number of graduates that find employment in the graphic design industry is evidence of the TAFE Queensland East Coast's success. The Diploma / Advanced Diploma will give you credit at University if you wish to go onto further study.

Assessment Information

Assessment occurs throughout the course through both practical and theoretical exercises. Assessment is competency based and you must complete all projects and assignments, written and/or practical, as set out within the unit study guides and workbooks. Most assessment pieces are practical in nature and simulate the type of work you will experience in industry settings.
