ccWhere do you work?

Self-employed at my own studio

When did you graduate from the graphic design course?

Describe your typical day as a designer.

Coffee at the Deli looking at magazines. Badly and beautifully designed ones to get inspiration.

Home - check emails, research design comps, do a bit of work. Research creative things happening on the Coast. Lunch at the surf club for some ocean inspiration. play with my puppy. I like doing more abstract and creative stuff at night with a glass of vino.

What do you love about being a designer?

Making something that has a purpose and a function into something beautiful as well

What area were you working in before the course?

Design - Graphic, Film, Interior & Photography

Why did you decide to do the course?

I rang TAFE one day and they said the course started tomorrow. I panicked and joined up.

What was the most valuable thing you took away from the course?

The course gave me a level of confidence in my work, I hadn't had before. Having to get up in front of a group of people and validate your ideas was very challenging in the beginning and very rewarding. Life drawing is great too.

How did you find the TAFE environment, facilities and teaching?

Excellent. Far beyond my expectations

How long did it take you to secure a job?

I was offered a job in my last few weeks of study.

What was the response like to your self promotion packs and websites during interviews?

Very positive. one employer said it was the best application she had seen in 10years of hiring designers

What's been the highlight of your career so far?

Winning Gold at the Southern Cross Packaging Awards in 2012

Any advice for someone pondering whether to take the leap into graphic design and sign up for the course?
